With your permission, your child will be allowed to bring home his/her first book from Lakeview School's Library. He/She will also learn how to choose a book on his/her own and will be introduced to different sections of our library. It is our hope that your child will learn how to take good care of our library books and classroom books.
Develop Responsibility
After reading his/her library book, you can help your child learn to be responsible for it by having him/her keep it in a safe place like his/her schoolbag or next to his/her bed. Try to make it the same place so it becomes a habit.
Return books on time.
We would also like the children to learn the importance of returning their book on time. Books are checked out for one week. A card in the pocket in the back of the book shows the due date. A new book cannot cannot be taken home until the previous week's book is returned. A fine of 2 cents will be charged for each day a book is late. If your child is absent on Library day, please return the book the day your child returns to school. No fines are charged for the days your child is absent. If we miss our Library day we usually have to keep our books for another week until our next Library day but no fines are charged.
Read to your child every day.
We find that children are more enthusiastic about reading when they can share books with their families. Please take the time to read this book with your child and to give your child a chance to tell you about the pictures and/or read it to you. Be sure to write the title on the Read-To-Me Home Reading Project form.
We hope we have a great year filled with reading both at school and at home!
Please sign this permission slip and return it tomorrow if your child is allowed to participate in our library program.
I give my child permission to borrow a book from the Lakeview School Library every week. I realize that I will be responsible for the book's replacement if any damage or loss occurs. I am also aware that we will be charged 2 cents for each day the book is overdue.
