Colorful Mittens
Tune: Six Little Ducks
Adapted by Mrs. Jones

Colorful mittens for me and you
Red ones, yellow ones, blue ones too.
But the one pair of mittens that rhymes with head,
They're my favorite mittens, and they are red!
They are red! They are red!
They're my favorite mittens, and they are red!

Colorful mittens for me and you
Red ones, yellow ones, blue ones too.
But the one pair of mittens that rhymes with fellow,
They're my favorite mittens, and they are yellow!
They are yellow! They are yellow!
They're my favorite mittens, and they are yellow!

Colorful mittens for me and you
Red ones, yellow ones, blue ones too.
But the one pair of mittens that rhymes with shoe,
They're my favorite mittens, and they are blue!
They are blue! They are blue!
They're my favorite mittens, and they are blue!

Colorful mittens for me and you
Red ones, yellow ones, blue ones too.
But the one pair of mittens that rhymes with bean,
They're my favorite mittens, and they are green!
They are green! They are green!
They're my favorite mittens, and they are green!

*****
Replace with other rhyming pairs such as:
kite/white    cavy/navy    cold/gold  fan/tan
You're on your own for orange and purple
unless you let the kids make up rhyming words!

You can also sing about designs or patterns on mittens:
dad/plaid    pecked/checked    typed/striped    knotted/spotted or dotted

You can also use real mittens and sing about textures:
hurry/furry    Mary/hairy    loft/soft    huffy/puffy    lumpy/bumpy

With a group you can make mittens to hand out and hold up while you sing. Act out or point to key words. The child holding the mitten that rhymes can sing alone to answer: "They're my favorite mittens, a-nd they are _____." Or the group can sing the response and the child says/sings the color.
