Letter Ff

Activities   Songs and Poems   Sing Along Songs 1  2  3  4

The letter-sound association we are studying this week is "F f" as in "funny face." Here are some activities you can do with your child at home to reinforce our classroom work.

1. Play a Listening Game. Which words begin with the "F f" sound?
a. That fellow has found five pennies.
b. The farmer put a fence around his field.
c. Too much food will make you fat.
d. Felix had a fever for four days.
e. You will find fins on a fish.

2. Play a Word Guessing game. All of your answers should begin with the "F f" sound.
a. My eyes, nose, and mouth are a part of my ________. (face)
b. What number comes after four? ________ (five)
c. A cat has fur and a bird has __________. (feathers)
d. An animal that swims in water and is caught on a hook is a ______. (fish)

3. Thinking: Tell what is wrong with these sentences:
a. A firefighter uses a book to fight fires.
b. A frog can fly.
c. I turn on the fan when I want to feel warm.
d. Feathers grow on a fox.
e. I eat french fries with my feet.

4. Have fun with "F f"
a. Float around the room like a feather.
b. Pretend to play the flute or a fiddle.
c. Make a funny face then see if your mom or dad can make it, too.
d. Play leap frog with a friend.

5. Make "My Family Foot Book." Your child should trace his/her foot on a piece of paper. Then he/she should trace each family member's foot on their own piece of paper. Decorate a cover then staple the pages together to make a book. Have your child look through magazines to find the letter "F f" and pictures that begin with the "F f" sound to cut out and glue to each footprint. Have your child label the pictures using "invented spelling." Your child should say each word a few times so he/she can listen to the sound at the beginning, in the middle and at the end. "Guess how each word is spelled and write your letter guesses under each picture. Decorate the pages any way you want then read your book to a friend or your father."

6. Make a Fan

7. Show your child how to make "F f" like this:

F: Make a straight line from top to bottom. At the top, make a line from left to right. Make another line from left to right in the middle.
f: Make a "candy cane" then cross it in the middle from left to right.

Five Little Speckled Frogs
A Raffi Song

Five little speckled frogs,
Sat on a speckled log,
Eating the most delicious bugs.

Then there were four green speckled frogs.
Glub! glub!

Continue singing until there are no more speckled frogs.

Five Little Frogs Were Down at the Pond

Five little frogs
Were down at the pond
Down at the pond at play.
Along came a hungry ________,
And chased one frog away.

Five little frogs
Were down at the pond
Down at the pond at play.
Along came a wiggly ________,
And chased one frog away.

Five little frogs
Were down at the pond
Down at the pond at play.
Along came a giant ________,
And chased one frog away.

Five little frogs
Were down at the pond
Down at the pond at play.
Along came a purple ________,
And chased one frog away.

Five little frogs
Were down at the pond
Down at the pond at play.
Along came a flying ________,
And chased one frog away.

Then no little frogs
Were down at the pond
Down at the pond at play.
Where do you think the little frogs went
When they all hopped away?
