How to Use Kid's Q and A
A regular feature of our class website is the Kid's Q and A. I ask the children a question and record their answers to post on our website. Occasionally in our reading group, I print a copy of our answers for each child so we can do some activities with the words. As I always tell the kids, "The more you practice the better you get!"
First, I read the words as I point to them and they follow along. Then we take turns pointing to and remembering classmate's names. We find and name all the punctuation. We look for, circle and count letters and repeating words. We slowly sound out the letters of a word we don't know then speed up and blend the sounds into a word that might make sense. Sometimes we draw a picture for a few of the words as a visual clue. We keep it fun and encouraging.
Parents ask what can they do at home to help their child practice guessing letter sounds and reading words. Why not print one of the pages on our Kid's Q and A page and let your child do the above activities at home with your help? Maybe your child will think it's a fun way to play with words and learn how to read!
