Insect Day on May 30, 2001

On Wednesday, May 30, the Kindergarten Classes had Insect Day in the Multi-Purpose Room. It turned out to be a "class act" and a "family affair." We did not have enough parent helpers so we asked some of the other classes if they would help us. Thank you to everyone who offered to help!

Mrs. Montano's Second Grade also talked about insects this year so her class helped the Kdg children recognize the 16 different insects in the Buggy Bingo game. Mrs. Zimmerman, one of our Kdg aides, was the "caller." Her daughter, Alyssa, is in Mrs. Montano's class. The other second grade helpers were Mitchell B, Ryan D, Armen E, Shane G, David G, TJ (cousin Kerri in Kdg) Keith K, Ian S, Ryan Y, Nicole B, Kelsey B, Loretta F, Danielle L, Kelly L (sister Amy in Kdg) Carly M and Kelly M.

Our aide, Mrs. King, and Maddie's Grandmother, Mrs. Petrancuri, had help from Mrs. Loftus' Third Grade with the La Cucaracha card game. Mrs. King's daughter, Jena, is in this class. Also, Mrs. Loftus' daughter, Amy, is in our Kdg and her other daughter, Kelly is in Mrs. Montano's room. The other third grade helpers were Chris R (cousin Bobby in Kdg) Veronica C (sister Hollie in Kdg) Jena K, Nicky A, Kevin B, Eric K, Bobby M, Karissa, Maura F, Becca O, Sarah R, and Kelsey G. The third graders were very good sports when a Kdg child won a game!

All of the kids in Mr. Higham's Fifth Grade Class played Games and Puzzles with us: Melissa P, Michelle, Michael H (brother Tyler in Kdg) and Bryan K, are the Kdg Safeties and Anthony V. helps in Mr. Ferrante's room. First time helpers were John B, Amanda, Kristy B, Dana G, Eric M, Tim M, and Lashawn W.

We also had the help of Bridget and Matt F. from Ms. Rubincam's Fifth Grade Class. Bridget's sister, Monica, is in our Kdg. Their mom, Mrs. Boyle, is a substitute teacher in our school. Bridget, Matt F. and Mrs. Boyle helped us make a Spider book. We know spiders are not insects but we included them anyway because they are small and some look and move like insects.

Thanks to our parent helpers! After we listened to a story, Mr. McAtee helped us do an insect word find puzzle. Mrs. Driadon and Mrs. Smith helped us make a caterpillar magnet and draw a moth and butterfly. Mr. Fernandez showed us how to play "Box The Bug." Mrs. Aikins and Mrs. Teofilak helped us make an insect headband. Mrs. Wingate and Mrs. Poole showed us how to play "Ladybug Lineup." Mrs. Werner helped us play Tic Tac Toe, "Ants in My Pants" and put together 2 big insect floor puzzles.

Everyone had a great time playing the games together. The older kids had as much fun as the younger ones! The Kdg kids had so much fun playing with the older kids that we hope to include them at our Insect Day every year!
